Prams & Strollers

How tall are you? Your height will determine your stride length and the position at which your hands need to hold the handle of the pram or stroller. Restricting your natural stride length and having to lean forward to comfortably secure and steer your pram, will limit both your enjoyment and the physical wellbeing from walking with baby.

What type of car do you drive? The weight, dimensions and simplicity of folding the pram or stroller will also help determine what you should purchase.

My advice; if you like long walks from home, then select a pram that is sturdy and comfortable to walk with and large enough to be used for a couple of years… and keep it by the front door for walking. Then, buy a smaller light weight stroller to keep for outings in the car. You will have the best of both worlds.

An essential tool in the everyday life of a parent. The pram and or stroller can be used for multiple purposes.

Safety points
to remember

  1. For walking, choose something that is sturdy and has height adjustable handles.

  2. Preferably use a pram that has baby facing you rather than limited to front facing.

  3. Check efficiency of braking and how the brake is applied.

  4. Check potential entrapment concerns when folding and unfolding and for baby fingers.

  1. Handle height and un-compromised stride length are important.

  2. Style of handle will comfort or antagonise wrist joints.

  3. Leaning forward to hold handle and compromised stride length will increase strain on lower back

  4. Adjustable baby carriage height is useful to limit forward bending when attending to baby.

  5. Large baby carriage space allows baby development and pram longevity.

  6. A pram over 10 kg or more is really difficult to safely fold and lift into and out of the back of a vehicle and will increase the risk of back injury.
